The one-woman musical show in Yiddish, "Mayn Tatns Tokhter" ("My Father's Daughter") tells a story of survival, optimism and hope.

Bella Bryks-Klein, the daughter of two Holocaust survivors, presents the panorama of her life in word and song. She was born in Stockholm, Sweden to the Yiddish writer Rachmil Bryks, who was born in Poland and survived four years in the Łódź Ghetto, and her Romanian-born mother who survived Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen.

Bryks-Klein recalls her life after they immigrated from Sweden to the United States: the Yiddish children’s poems her dad read to her; the home where the Holocaust was mentioned daily; the Eastern-European flavor of her upbringing in New York City. After coming to study in Jerusalem for a one-year university program, she fell in love, got married and remained to live in Israel. Widowed with three children, Bryks-Klein succeeded in becoming a strong independent woman and continues her father’s legacy of preserving Yiddish.

Editor & producer: Dory Engel. Piano accompanist: Misha Blekherovich.

The event, sponsored by the National Authority for Yiddish Culture, will take place at the club "Me Lacht Zusammen" ("Laughing Together") at Abba Silver St. 2, Rishon LeZion, on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 10 a.m.
